Check which surfaces need primer
Read the selected product’s preparation instructions before estimating primer. If only some surfaces need it, measure those surfaces separately. An area calculator cannot diagnose the substrate or decide which primer is compatible.
The primer option in our paint calculator uses the same wall and/or ceiling surfaces you have selected. If your primed area differs, use a separate project with measurements for that area.
Use a separate coverage rate
Suppose 20 m² needs one coat of primer at a stated 8 m² per litre. That requires 2.5 litres. If your selected tin size is 3 litres, the estimate rounds to one tin. These figures are hypothetical.
A finish coat with another rate or coat count needs its own calculation. Two coats of finish paint do not automatically mean two coats of primer.
Keep the shopping list clear
Record the primer’s product name, tin size and quantity on a separate line from wall and ceiling paint. Enter a price for each product if you want to compare the material total.
